PORT ANGELES HIGH SCHOOL

After a three-year drought in Washington State, finally Anthony
Kearns and the every dapper Patrick Healy were back for two (2)
concerts in Port Angeles and Raymond. "When they begin the
overture, they start to end the show" is a lyric that goes
through my mine about half-way through the recital, but I
am getting ahead of myself.
The Port Angeles festivities were to raise monies for the high
school orchestra to participate in a concert at Carnegie Hall,
a worthy cause, and the auditorium was filled to the gunwales
in this small community which was gratifying to see. The program
was much the same as Needham and Texas with the exception
of the 3 songs Anthony and Patrick performed with the orchestra:
If I Loved You from Carousel, Younger than Springtime from
South Pacific and Bring Him Home, Les Miserables. Then,
they performed Danny Boy with piano and violin, very beautiful
and touching. The lady sitting to my left had not heard Anthony
sing in person, and she was most pleased and impressed with
his musical acumen, as was I. It never ceases to amaze me
at the technique, vocal range and nuances with which he
shades his singing. I can only say Bravo! well done!
The next afternoon, we were off to Raymond where the
historic theater was also filled to near capacity. This theater
is on the historic registry, deservedly so, beautiful venue.
With Anthony and Patrick today on their own with no string
section, we did not get the show tunes - except for a
charming duet from Call Me Madam, I am never sure of the
name. I do believe it is officially "You're Just in Love."
Shades of Ethel Merman and Donald O'Connor! There was
also a special request by the ladies who organized the day
to sing Isle of Hope, Isle of Tears. Of course, both shows
ended with a rousing Granada! bringing to a close my two
days of enchantment. All in all, a very good weekend.
Thank you, gentlemen.
