KFA was honored to be a part of a remarkable evening with greetings by Vice President Joe Biden and Taoiseach Enda Kenny at the opening celebration of the 1916 Easter Rising. These historic events 100 years ago led to Ireland's birth as an independent nation - an act of courage that had the support of many American friends and allies. Under the direction of actress Fiona Shaw, the Easter Rising festival is the centerpiece of the "Ireland 2016" celebrations in the United State...s.There is no better place to showcase Ireland's history and contributions to the world than at the shrine to America's first Irish-American president, John F. Kennedy.

Ms. Shaw and all the performers did a splendid job of infusing the audience with feelings of the Irish spirit and culture which has so impacted America, her strongest friend and ally.
?#?AnthonyKearns? was introduced as having set the stage ablaze as a member of The Irish Tenors -- he is someone who has delighted the ears and hearts of millions of fans with his beautiful voice in song. Now living in the U.S., Ms. Shaw said we could "borrow him" at least for a little while.
Mr. Kearns’ rendition of "Down by the Salley Gardens” was flawless and silken -- everything about his performance struck the perfect note.
Last night we had a chance to catch up with the Irish delegation at the U.S. Capitol. There I was taken back in one sense by how many people, from the Irish Embassy staff, to Members of Congress, and to the genteel Mr. Kenny, went out of their way to say how much they enjoyed Anthony Kearns' performance.
We are all very proud of the tenor, and also the friendship and close bonds between the Irish and American peoples. This will be a theme throughout the festival and very strong on May 23, 2016 when Mr. Kearns performs with the talented mezzo soprano Tara Erraught.

Thanks to Kirsetn Fedewa, KFA.
